Why Do You Want the Things You Do?
Do you ever list out the things you want in your life, dream about them, slap them on a vision board and think "THIS IS IT"?
I do. I have lot of things I want. So do my clients. But when I desire something I also want to know why I want it.
Have you done this? You wanted something, got it and come to find out it didn't make you happy because you never really wanted it in the first place? I have. When I get the thing I thought I wanted, I wasn't happy because it was never my genuine desire to have it.
Let me give you an example. I wanted to go to college to study Finance. I took the tests, visited the colleges, and applied where I wanted to go. Yippppeeee! I got accepted, studied and took classes and graduated only to find out I really never wanted that in the first place. It was never my dream to be in Finance. It was my parents pushing me into the "9-5" stable life. I took it on as my own, but it was never what I really wanted.
I sometimes find my clients come to me with one goal, but really want another. One of the first things I ask them to do is write out what they want and why they want it. I'll get things like "I want 6 pack abs" or "I want to lose 20 pounds". Both are great goals, if you REALLY want them.
Many times these people really want to lose 20 pounds, sometimes they think they "NEED" to lose 20 pounds because they believe their husband would like it...or their best friend just lost 20 pounds, or they really just want to lose 10 but 20 sounds better.
Why waste time, money or energy on something you don't really want and won't make you happy?
I only like to work with people who want to lose weight and get healthy for themselves. Ultimately everyone around you (like your kids, family, etc) will reap the benefits of a healthy, happy, and confident YOU. But you have to want it for yourself and your own reasons.
Sometimes getting what you want isn't easy but your deep desire will carry you through.
